Five killed in Lake Township, Michigan, shooting; wounded 13-year-old girl called 911
Five people were killed in a shooting in Lake Township, in Missaukee County, Michigan, state police said. The figure of five dead was as of Saturday.
The shooting was Friday, Aug. 14, 2026. Police arrived at a home in Lake Township, Missaukee County, at around 11:40 a.m. Friday, where three people were found dead and a wounded 13-year-old girl was found.
State police spokesperson Lt. Ashley Miller said the 13-year-old girl had "called 911 to report that she had been shot" on Friday.
The suspected gunman is dead. "We were able to identify him right away," Miller said. State police said investigators cannot yet say whether the suspected gunman killed himself, pending an autopsy.
A relative identified two of the dead on Facebook: Amanda Everitt, 40, and Eric Everitt, 16, Amanda Everitt's son. David Everitt — Amanda Everitt's father and Eric Everitt's grandfather — wrote about the deaths.
Michigan state police are the responding agency.
"This is a very small community, and this type of incident — and it obviously has rocked and crushed that community at this point," Miller said. "They’re looking for answers, and they want to know why."
