Salem County Sheriff's Sergeant Charged With Animal Cruelty Over K-9 Deaths
Salem County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Cody Henderson, 41, has been charged with animal cruelty, wfpg.com reported. The matter is at the charging stage and has not been resolved; the charge is an allegation, and Henderson is presumed innocent.
The government alleges that Henderson left two K-9s in his care in a hot car for seven hours on May 29th, leaving them in a sheriff's department vehicle parked in the county's courthouse parking lot from about 8:30 am until about 3:30 pm, according to wfpg.com. The vehicle was not running, its windows were closed, and the K-9 heat alarm meant to protect the dogs was not activated, despite indoor kennels being immediately available, the report states.
The dogs were found unresponsive and were later determined to have likely died from hyperthermia, wfpg.com reported.
