American Airlines Boeing 737 disabled by double tire blowout at O'Hare
An American Airlines Boeing 737 became disabled on a taxiway at Chicago O'Hare International Airport on August 26, 2026, after both tires on its right main landing gear burst, according to Simple Flying. The incident occurred around 1:35 PM local time. Passengers were disembarked by airstairs and bused back to the terminal.
The aircraft, operating as flight AA3280, was the fifth tire-related incident at O'Hare in two weeks, Simple Flying reported. The Federal Aviation Administration and the Chicago Department of Aviation are investigating. The CDA said it is working with the FAA and both airlines to investigate each failure, with the department's commissioner describing the cluster of incidents as "rare." The cause of the latest incident has not been determined.
Registry records list the aircraft as a Boeing 737-823, built in 2013, with serial number 31171, and registered to Wilmington Trust Co Trustee; the owner of record is not necessarily the operator of the flight. The registration N927NN has been derived from flight tracking data and has not been confirmed by an official record.
