The National Weather Service Charleston SC has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory and a High Rip Current Risk for coastal areas in Georgia and South Carolina, effective September 8, 2026. The advisory is in effect from 5 PM to 9 PM EDT, while the rip current risk continues through the evening.
The affected areas include Coastal Bryan, Coastal Chatham, Coastal Liberty, and Coastal McIntosh Counties in Georgia, and Beaufort and Coastal Jasper Counties in South Carolina. The advisory warns of up to one half foot of inundation above ground level along shorelines and tidal waterways, with water levels expected to reach 9.6 to 9.8 feet Mean Lower Low Water at Fort Pulaski. Saltwater inundation will impact some roads, and rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
Residents are advised to allow extra time if travel is required, as some roads may be closed, and not to drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. For those near the water, swimming near a lifeguard is recommended. If caught in a rip current, the advice is to relax and float, not swim against the current, and if unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.

Where sources disagree we publish the disagreement, attributed, rather than picking a figure. Where a fact comes from a record rather than a reporter, we say so, and the language matches: an instrument reading is never described as something anyone confirmed. Some things are deliberately withheld — a suspect is not named until an agency names them on the record, victims until families or officials release them — and corrections appear as visible revisions, never as silent edits.
None of that makes a report true. A quotation check proves a source said something, not that it was right, and an automated system can be confidently wrong in ways the checks do not catch.
