Extreme Heat Warning for San Juan and Vicinity, Northeast, Southeast Until 5 PM AST
The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for September 7, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM AST. The warning covers 11 zones across Puerto Rico, including San Juan and Vicinity, Northeast, Southeast, Eastern Interior, North Central, Central Interior, Ponce and Vicinity, Northwest, Western Interior, Mayaguez and Vicinity, and Southwest. Affected cities include Bayamon, Caguas, Mayaguez, and others.
The warning ends at 5:00 PM AST this afternoon. It states that this level of heat can affect anyone without effective cooling or adequate hydration. Impacts include a significant increase in heat-related illnesses, with the most pronounced effects across coastal sections, lowlands, interior valleys, and urban areas. The NWS advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, staying out of the sun, and checking on relatives and neighbors. It also warns against leaving young children and pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.
For outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency; call 9-1-1. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.

Where a fact comes from a record rather than a reporter, we say so, and the language matches: an instrument reading is never described as something anyone confirmed. Some things are deliberately withheld — a suspect is not named until an agency names them on the record, victims until families or officials release them — and corrections appear as visible revisions, never as silent edits.
