National Weather Service Issues Flood Watch for Sangre de Cristo Mountains
Official records from the National Weather Service Albuquerque NM state that a Flood Watch is in effect on August 16, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM MDT and ending at 6:00 PM MDT. The watch covers 2 zones, including the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the East Slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains, as well as the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon burn scar. Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
According to National Weather Service Albuquerque NM records, storms with heavy rainfall rates in excess of 1 inch per hour are expected to develop over the peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and slowly drift eastward over the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon burn scar during the early to mid-afternoon.
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
