Heat Advisory for Ashley, Chicot, Morehouse and Other Areas from Noon to 8 PM CDT Tuesday
The National Weather Service in Jackson, Mississippi, has issued a Heat Advisory for Tuesday, September 1, from noon to 8 PM CDT. The advisory covers portions of southeast Arkansas, northeast Louisiana, and central, north central, northwest, southwest, and west central Mississippi, including Ashley, Chicot, Morehouse, and other counties. Cities affected include Jackson, Vicksburg, Greenville, and Yazoo City.
Heat index values up to 108 are expected. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. The advisory urges residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. It also warns against leaving young children and pets in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.
The advisory recommends taking extra precautions when outdoors, wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limiting strenuous activities to early morning or evening. For outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency; call 9 1 1.
The advisory starts at noon CDT Tuesday and remains in effect until 8 PM CDT Tuesday.
