Heat Advisory Issued for Johnston, Stanly, Montgomery and Other Central NC Counties Through Saturday Evening
The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Heat Advisory for portions of central North Carolina, in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 5, 2026. The advisory covers 13 counties, including Johnston, Stanly, Montgomery, Moore, Lee, Harnett, Wayne, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Hoke, Cumberland, and Sampson. Cities affected include Fayetteville, Dunn, Angier, Aberdeen, Troy, Sanford, Polkton, Selma, Smithfield, Carthage, Camp Mackall, Wadesboro, Southern Pines, Buies Creek, Lillington, Hope Mills, Pinehurst, Laurinburg, Spring Lake, Roseboro, Ellerbe, Albemarle, Erwin, Goldsboro, and Rockingham.
According to the advisory, heat index values up to 107 degrees Fahrenheit are expected. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. The National Weather Service advises drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air-conditioned room, staying out of the sun, and checking on relatives and neighbors. They recommend wearing lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, limiting strenuous activities to early morning or evening, and taking action when symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke are seen.
The advisory was issued at 2:06 p.m. EDT on Friday, September 4, 2026. A previous Heat Advisory was in effect until 8 p.m. EDT Friday, with heat index values up to 109 degrees Fahrenheit.
