Affected locations include Charlotte Amalie, Maunabo, Guaynabo, Mayaguez, Anasco, Toa Alta, Caguas, Penuelas, Bayamon, Barceloneta, Toa Baja, Moca, Cabo Rojo, Frederiksted, Yauco, Arroyo, Salinas, Frederiksted Southeast, Santa Isabel, Fajardo, Vega Baja, Canovanas, Rio Grande, Isabela, and Trujillo Alto. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses, affecting most individuals sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling or adequate hydration. Official precautions state to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. For outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location, and heat stroke is an emergency requiring a call to 9 1 1.
