Heat Advisory Issued for San Juan and Vicinity, Northeast, Southeast and Other Areas of Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands
The National Weather Service in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has issued a Heat Advisory for August 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM AST. The advisory covers portions of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, including 13 zones such as San Juan and Vicinity, Northeast, Southeast, Eastern Interior, North Central, Ponce and Vicinity, Northwest, Mayaguez and Vicinity, Southwest, Culebra, Vieques, St. Thomas...St. John...and Adjacent Islands, and St Croix.
The advisory warns that hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. This level of heat affects most individuals sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. The advisory was issued at 1:43 AM AST on August 28 and remains in effect until 5:00 PM AST on August 28.
Residents are advised to take extra precautions when outside, wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing, limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening, and take action when seeing symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.
