National Weather Service Issues Heat Advisory for Portions of Four States
On August 11, 2026, the National Weather Service Shreveport LA issued an official Heat Advisory covering 48 zones in portions of south central and southwest Arkansas, north central and northwest Louisiana, southeast Oklahoma, and east and northeast Texas.
According to official records, heat index values from 105 to 109 degrees are expected, where hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. The advisory window begins at 12:33 PM CDT on August 11, 2026, and extends until 8:00 PM CDT on August 20, 2026.
Official records list affected areas including Caddo, Bossier, Bowie, Smith, Gregg, and McCurtain counties, as well as cities such as Longview, El Dorado, Lufkin, Mount Pleasant, and Winnsboro. Official precautions recommend drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, staying out of the sun, wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing, and checking up on relatives and neighbors. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments for outdoor work, and moving anyone overcome by heat to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, and callers should dial 9 1 1.
