High Wind Warning Issued for Haleakala Summit
A high wind warning remains in effect for the Haleakala Summit, including Haleakala National Park, on August 17, 2026, as conditions develop. According to official weather records from the National Weather Service Honolulu HI, the warning began at 2:00 PM HST on August 16, 2026, and expires at midnight HST on August 17, 2026.
Official records state that south winds up to 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph have been reported, with winds expected to decrease through the evening. A High Wind Warning means that winds at the summits are expected to be at least 56 mph, with gusts over 66 mph across 1 zone.
The National Weather Service Honolulu HI reported that winds this strong can make driving and walking dangerous.
