Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, and strong winds and rough waves on area lakes will create hazardous conditions for small craft, according to the advisory. The National Weather Service advises securing loose outdoor items such as patio furniture and trash cans before winds increase. It also recommends having extra food and water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage, checking lake conditions before heading out, and considering postponing boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind. A separate Lake Wind Advisory is in effect for Washoe Lake from p.m. to 8 p.m. PDT on Friday, with west winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts to 30 to 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
